Kaikoura sits on the coast between Marlborough and Canterbury, roughly 130 kilometres south of Blenheim on SH1. It is a town built on tourism, crayfish and farming, and all three industries need regular, dependable freight. MD Freighting runs a regular service to Kaikoura, keeping this coastal community connected to the wider supply chain.
Since the 2016 earthquake and the major rebuild that followed, Kaikoura has bounced back stronger. The road is open, the town is thriving, and freight demand has grown with it. We have been servicing Kaikoura through all of it.

How we service Kaikoura
Our Kaikoura run heads south from Blenheim along SH1, through the Awatere Valley and down the coast. It is a stunning drive and a critical freight link. Goods are sorted at our Blenheim depot and loaded onto scheduled runs heading south.
Kaikoura's economy runs on seafood and tourism. Crayfish heading to restaurants in Christchurch and beyond. Supplies coming in for whale watch operators, hotels and eateries. Fresh produce for local shops. We handle the freight side, keeping goods moving reliably between Kaikoura and our Blenheim hub.
For freight heading further south into Canterbury, Kaikoura is the handover point to our carrier partners who continue down SH1 to Christchurch. Going north, we bring Kaikoura freight back to Blenheim and connect it with our Picton for North Island destinations, or route it through our Nelson corridor and wider Marlborough network.
